Five Minute Friday: TRY

I'm almost a week late but I really want to start writing more, even though its fun to post lots of pics on the blog too! So here's another Five Minute Fridays (after another long hiatus) encouraging bloggers to write on a prompt unedited for five minutes.

This week's prompt: TRY

BEGIN:

I say variations of it over and over everyday...

"Take a deep breath and try again."  "Don't give up yet, just try." "Keep trying, you can do it"

I say it to the child frustrated buckling their seat belt, or whining for help finding a missing shoe (after looking 2.4 seconds), or facing a homework problem that just seems too hard, or asking that I take apart a pair of stuck legos.

I say it in hopes of encouraging, teaching perseverance or patience, and not giving up.  And (if I'm being honest) in hopes that it buys me a few more seconds before I switch tasks for the millionth time that day.

Does it work?  Sometimes.  Other times I have melting child on the floor or some similar variation.

If TRY isn't working, then what.

Well, when I'm frustrated, doing something hard, or faced with something that just seems like too much, how does my Heavenly Father speak to me?

Yes, patience and perseverance are important.  But first I think it would be His presence.

"I'm here with you." "You are not alone." "Together we can do this"

This is what I need to remind myself when my kids are exasperated, frustrated or facing something that just seems too big for their little selves.  They need to know I'm on their team, they are not alone, and together we can work through this.

They need my presence more than my words.
